At Oasis Optometry, our doctors have extensive experience in LASIK co-management, and even had LASIK themselves! We can answer your questions, and go over risks & benefits to see if LASIK is an option for you.
The most common types of refractive surgeries in the U.S. are LASIK and PRK. LASIK involves creating a flap in the cornea and using a laser to reshape the underlying tissue. PRK involves removing the outer layer of the cornea and using a laser to reshape the tissue underneath.
LASIK/PRK are types of eye surgeries that are used to correct refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. They work by reshaping the cornea to improve how light is focused on the retina, thereby providing clear vision.
This depends on several factors, including the type and severity of your refractive error, the thickness and shape of your cornea, and your overall eye health. A comprehensive eye exam can determine if you may be a good candidate for the procedure.
No pain during! After the procedure, you may experience some discomfort or sensitivity to light for a few days, but this can be managed with medication.
Most people can resume normal activities within a few days after the procedure, although you should avoid strenuous exercise and swimming for a few weeks. Your vision may be blurry or hazy for a few days or weeks after the procedure, but it should improve gradually over time.
The success rate of LASIK is very high, but as with any surgery, there are the potential for risks which may include dry eyes, nighttime halos around lights, and rarely, serious complications. We and our surgeon partners will evaluate your potential for these risks, so that you can make an informed decision about what is best for your eye health.
